I can't believe people are as ignorant or bigoted as they appear to be.

Most white Americans aren't in contact with many minorities unless they live near big cities which would explain the ignorance, but the bigotry can't be ignored.

Well I thought it was a culturally insensitive move by the builders but not illegal but the fact that there's a mosque already there totally changes my view of the thing.

:coffee:

dunno. Swirling thoughts on this.

Part of the basis for the founding of the country was freedom...of religion, initially. Feel the need to support that, even if it makes me uncomfortable.

When I first saw the news, thought it might have been to be deliberately provocative. Modified my thoughts since then. Could serve to be a very educational place. Might do some good.

BUT, enough folks out there who might see it as a site to demonstrate their ire in violent ways. Gawd knows we got enough home-grown bigots.

The responses are generally not rational, but emotional.

Guess I settle back to my initial thoughts: feel the need to support it, even in the face of rampant opposition.

dunno.

People like this aren't helping much...http://thinkprogress.org/2010/07/30/pastor-burn-quran-muslims/

Pastor Hosting ‘International Burn A Quran Day’: ‘We Have Nothing Against Muslims’

On September 11, 2010, the extremist evangelical Dove World Church — whose pastor, Terry Jones, has written a book called “Islam Is Of The Devil” — plans to host “International Burn A Quran Day,” when it will burn Muslims’ sacred text and encourage others across the world to do so as well. Churchmember Wayne Sapp has even posted an instructional video that explains how and why to burn the Islamic text.
